Our fleet experience has not shown the 6.4 to be worse than the 6.0, quite the opposite. We have three 6.4's, one stock, one lightly modded and one heavily modded, all three have been virtually trouble free. Our 6.0's are always blowing up bone stock, and the 7.3's are turds. Our two 6.7's have been great, but the biggest pita to work on of all. Basic routine service maintenance is a nightmare.

We had 6 2008 F350s. Everyone one of them has had the engine replaced at least once. One has had the engine replaced 3 times at Ford. Blown turbo hoses off. And now we are having issues with the oil cooler plugging. We have some old 2005 6.0s left over and they have been fairly reliable. The 6.0s have had there FICMs replaced, Also have had oil pump issues and snap connectors replaced on the oil pipes. That is just off the top of my head. We have scrapped most of the 08s and are down to just 3 and still have 5 of the 2005s.

The 6.0 is not too bad to work on but that the 6.4 requires removing the cab for just about any repair.

No thanks. I will take a Cummins any day of the week.

The 2011 F450 with the 6.7 has been very good. We also took delivery of 2 new 2012 Ram 4500s. Very good trucks.. Only complaint has been lack of power until about 15000 miles..Now they seem to be on par powerwise.

We have never had to move the cab to do anything to our 6.4's, but then, we haven't had to do anything but regular service on them. All three are about 125,00 miles, maybe that's why. Our 6.0's haven't even made it to 100K.

Well the Ford is definately out as the dealer will not go below 13,500 and they also said the tranny may be going. It has been on their lot for 2 years. I offered 5k but the answer was no.
