headlight upgrade options
Ok, so I just put ANZO's in mine....over stock HUGE improvement. I also got a set of 55w HID's from a buddy.....Anyone know if the ANZO's will handle a 55w HID in them?? I dont want to melt my new headlights, but those HID's would be sweet.
Im running 55watt hid's in my projectors. So far it seems to be fine.
Which Anzos are better? The projectors or the crystal ones? I was told the crystal ones are a better beam for dark back road driving. They have a wider beam, the projectors are more narrow beam...meaning right in front of the truck, no much toward the outside. I mainly on dark backroads, in poor weather conditions (rain, snow, etc), so I'd like a good set of headlights for that. Can anyone please elaborate on this...? Thanks.
Well projectors project the light in front of you. Kinda like a flash light. Where normal housings give you a wide range side to side and top to bottom. It's kinda like a square flood light on a house. My projectors give me a nice tight beam right in front of me and a little to the side. All I ever drive is back mountain roads. I have hids tho so I don't have any trouble seeing.
Never heard of vvme, but I'm in the market for HIDs and not many people have done them in these trucks.
So many problems with the headlight switches/harnesses going bad right off the showroom floor as it is, I'm nervous to mod things too much without knowing WTF I'm doing.

I've been running vvme stuff for almost 5 years now. I had them in my dakota for about 4 years and almost a year now in my ram. Everyone swears by the retro solutions kits which they are great but not for the price. I can get a 3 kits for the price of 1 of theirs. The main thing about running hid's is use a relay(dont pull through the stock headlight switch especially when using 55watt lights) Using the relay will allow you to pull power from the battery instead. I have my headlights ran on relays but not on my fogs(35watt so dont pull much) I do have problems with it at times causing my edge to restart when I turn them on. Im gonna try a relay on them and see if it helps. Not sure if its causing interference since my edge is mounted right about my headlight switch. Other than that they have been good for me. My last set in my dakota were mounted on my fender and when I got in the accident they took a pretty good hit(cracked my battery box and fuse box thats how hard I got hit) and I just got a new bulb for it and it worked fine.
I keep hearing about adding relays to solve the melting switch issue, but I can't seem to come up with any diagrams anywhere. For me, it's complicated further by the fact that when my harness melted, the [stupidly expensive] replacement kit from Chrysler only had two different color wires: green and purple. Why, when you pay that much money for a molded plastic plug and a few feet of wire can they not give you the right colors to make it simple? Anyway, I want to add a relay to get myself out of my immediate frying pan (killing a new switch at least once a year) but I have no idea which wires to run through it. I've spent more time than I care to admit talking to Chrysler about this, and the rumored service bulletin on the subject and subsequent kit that was allegedly developed to fix it, only to find that nobody there seems to know jack about it. My headlight housings are old and have a lot of miles on them, and I would love HID's, but upgrading either before I fix the inherent problem with the stock system seems like putting the cart before the horse. Regardless, I didn't know about vvme and I'll file it away for later. Thanks for taking the time!
