hey guys im new to this sight, i just have a questin about my 02 cummins. Ive owned the truck for about 5 years now thiers about 180,000 on it it is ben my daily driver evey day. i put a fass 150 on it about 3 years ago and change the filters every 25,000 but i take this truck on very long trips in the summer ten hour drives. wile towing a camper and 3 atvs, im woundering if i should just change the inj pump now so im not stranded in canada on my vacation in the middle of no weres lol. the truck always started easy and runs 100% to this day mods are 6inch exhuast, banks intake diablo power puck, and the fass lift pump. i did the work about three years ago, im just woundering how long the inj pump will last and if i should just change it before it becomes a burdin. thanks guys -matt-

Unfortunately the VP44's are know for unreliability, and it is really hard to put a life expectancy on them. Some go for 10 years, others maybe two years. I wouldn't change it for the sake of changing it, but if you are worried about it letting you down, you could keep one with you, and the tools to change it.

if you have the cash to just swap it out why not just do a P-Pump they are quite reliable and there plenty of people that can sell you a kit or do the swap for you.

Mattreb, if youve got the money like the others said go ahead and buy one and wait for your other to quit. Unfortunatley I was left stranded, good thing my pickup was at home parked. I picked my pump up from Thourghbred Diesel and paid just under a thousand for it. Good luck and trust your machine, she'll get you around!

It really depends how low the psi was on it before the fass. If it was in the mid to upper teens it will prob last awhile. You could just get a spare to carry like others have mentioned but I go by "if it aint broke then why fix it"

YouTube has a great movie of it.

It is multi-part, so you'll have to find the next parts after this.
