Second Cummins 24V 1999
Well I just got my son his first Dodge Cummins, a 1999 2500 4X4 Short Wheel base with 266k and new tires. Truck needed a lift pump and injection pump. New transmission less that 6 months ago(auto) but considering we got it for $1500 can't complain. Truck runs great only issues I have mechanically is no reverse light don't work, I have narrowed to a Neutral safety switch but it’s raining out and I refuse to get wet. We also had to put a heater core in. Future plans for next week are an Amsoil Bypass filter. What should i look at for preventative maintenance?

What type of lift pump was pump on? Even in a bone stock set up, a good lift pump can save you another injection pump.
AmsOil by-pass is a slick unit, I have one myself. Make sure the u-joints are good int he front drive shaft. If one of those goes, that shaft will spin uncontrollably and cause havoc. I recently had the rear snap ring let go in my Transfer Case. It ended up costing me $400 in parts, due to a $2 snap ring failure. There is a kit for the 241 transfer cases that puts a much better snap ring design in. They are $60, can be done without pulling the t-case, and can save a lot of headache. |
