Driving habits while towing?

I have a stock engine and 47re Trans with an upgraded torque converter. Runs really nice at 65 towing a 7,000# travel trailer. Issue I have is that when pulling a long hill I can't maintain 65 and stay in overdrive. Not enough power from engine. If I drop into 4th gear, I feel that 55 is a more reasonable speed based on RPM's of 2,200. What are my options? My ego tells me that I should be able to keep going 65. Afterall, it is a cummins. I am wondering if it is smart to add hp to a stock transmission for this situation? Or should I just live with it or am I possibly low on boost or some other issue? No gauges to help with evaluation yet.

With an upgraded T/C, you have removed one of the weakest links in the trans. An upgraded Valve Body would help the transmissions life as well.

Any other mods to the truck? Starting with the the simple stuff, lift pump, gauges, intake, and exhaust will help out for sure. You could be starving your injection pump while it is trying to push more fuel.

Towed once with an auto 01 pickup and thats all it took to put it in the shop. 2500 bucks later and a whole bunch of parts and it was good to go. Somebody stole my problem and now i dont have to deal with it. My opinion I wouldnt add power you'll burn it up unless you feel like spending money on a rebuild. Dont mean to rain on your parade but... A trans temp gauge would be a great idea so you can keep and eye on the temp. Good luck.
