buying my first cummins! good deal?

Im looking to buy a 4x4 cummins was wanting to buy a 12 valve but i found a 24 valve. here is the description from its posting. I have a 2000 dodge cummins for sale it's an ex cab long bed 4x4 auto trans has 300k has fass 150 all stock Other than that has a new vp44 seats have no rips asking $4200. im just a little concerned with the amount of miles. what should i be woried about at 300k miles? im how do i tell if its a 53 block? thanks for the help

miles aren't bad as long as the truck was well maintaned. I would stop by a parts store on a test drive and check codes or do the key trick. look behind the injection pump on the block to see the serial number.

My truck had 230K on it when I bought it. was getting ready to buy one with 320k on it before mine popped up. So aslong as the maintanance has been done and hasn't been rode hard. those miles wouldn't scare me.
looking from bottom up. somebody correct me if I'm wrong, there is a casting on the block drivers side pretty much right under the PS pump. it will be 53, 55 or whatever other castings there are. even if it is a 53 block and has that many miles on it, wouldn't seem likely to cause a problem later, unless your wanting to make some HP with it.

Just make sure it's not already cracked with a cob patch job, if it hasn't cracked in 300k I wouldn't worry about it. :c:
