my first diesel!!! finally

Hi guys I just bought my first diesel and am very green to all of this I have been boggin for years but was finally able to save up and got a

98 2500 24v

It has a
-southbend Clutch
-62mm Turbo
-125 or 150 edge jammer injectors (Guy I bought it from forgot which ones he has 3 other Cummings)
-edge comp 1-5 settings
-smarty S-03 1-8 settings
-ladder bars
-holly auxiliary pump

I am very new to this so have any of you had this programer stack? My exhaust temps are about 7 at 60mph. But when I go to pass they jump right to 10-12 how can I keep my temps down is that normal? Any good preventative maintenance I can do any info would be greatly appreciated

I have Smarty set on 4 and edge on 1x1 for daily driving

What is normal amount of boost for 62mm Turbo.

to keep you egts down, i would get a water methanol injection kit. snow performance makes a good kit but there are different ones out there.

1000-1200 while passing is just fine. Exceeding 1350-1400 is getting into danger.

A 62 with the fuel to spool it should get into 45-50 psi range. Boost psi all depends on fuel and restriction of air flow.

Congrats on the purchase by the way!

In case you didn't already know, don't run your smarty on the odd number tunes with your edge comp.

Hoytshooter 12-29-2012 10:25 PM

Thanks ! I just don't want to f it up ... I feel I got a good deal I paid 7500 it has 188xxx miles body 90% rust free. Is there any good sites or threads u recommend... I have alot to learn but everything seems simple just got to know correct settings and tricks

Bryce 12-29-2012 10:27 PM

Cummins. You will catch a lot of flak for spelling it cummings

RAW 12-29-2012 10:32 PM

Ignore those that get pissy about spelling Cummins with a g in it. Most the time they have a half dozen spelling errors in their post harassing you. :ha:

Lots of good information on here. Use the search bar on the top and off you can't find what your looking for, just ask.

Sounds like a good deal. Jammers are hit and miss. They are known for being hot and Smokey.

Hoytshooter 12-29-2012 10:39 PM

My auto spell is to blame for that lol...

dieseldude848 12-29-2012 10:41 PM

id consider upgrading the lift pump with a fass or airdog/raptor 150gph system

Hoytshooter 12-29-2012 10:51 PM

Any recommended fuel gauge mine currently has on with plastic line going into pillar I'm not fond due to if it was to break might make a mess

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I have always installed and built my own trucks but also have learned its sometimes cheaper to buy one already done so I maid a exception and let him save me the money :jump::yeah:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

So its not good to have two chips doing timing at the same time ....:scare2: who new

Yes that is one thing he did tell me thanks for telling me :jump:

BarryB 12-29-2012 10:55 PM

I installed an isspro ev2 FP gauge in my pillar. electronic so no fuel is in the cab. You can get 1/8 copper tubing and run it to the gauge, lil more durable than the plastic line.

Hoytshooter 12-29-2012 11:07 PM

I'm runningaround 10 give or take on fuel 15 with auxiliary pump

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

What injectors would you guys recommend for my truck I want to bring egts down and be more efficient

How was installation and wat was cost is it before lift pump or after I hear after is better

Like RAW said your egts are within the safe range. But if you are worried about them, instead of different injectors you might want to look into a three piece exhaust manifold or water/methanol.

Hoytshooter 12-29-2012 11:12 PM

Water / methanol sounds out of my league. .....

blacksally 12-30-2012 12:27 AM

i got the snow performance stage 2 meth/water i love it i use to run hot on hills hit it then im all good i use -20 washer fluid and some times distill water when its warmer i paid next to nothing for it works good

Hoytshooter 12-30-2012 07:50 AM

Where can I read about it to get a better concept on how it works/ installing one thanks for bearing with me guys I'm 23 and have alot to learn:s:

RAW 12-30-2012 11:41 AM

Water meth isn't something I would suggest. It isn't a permanent fix, needs constant fill ups, and tuning it in can never time consuming. The same money could be put into permanent, zero maintenance upgrades. Exhaust manifold, Camshaft, intercooler, etc.

My electric AutoMeter fuel gauge was about $250. No fuel in the cab, easy install, and quick to respond.
