replacing vp44!!!!
I'm stationed in Virginia right now. My vp died last time I went home and i was just gonna have it replaced so I dont spend Christmas leave fixin my truck. All the quotes I've gotten are over 3k! I say F that. What are yalls thoughts?:argh:

I say F that indeed! Save yourself a handful of cash and take one day to do it yourself. I've done it a bunch on construction equipment, and my fastest time is about 40 minutes using timing pins. They are very easy to change.
ya f that for sure, spend the grand on getting the pump and find a step by step online if need be. save yourself some money!
That extra $1000 could fly me there to do it! :ha:
40 mins wow!!probably take me that just to pull the lines off the pump!!!:c:
That's on an Excavator. There is WAY more room to access everything.
Or spend the extra money on a P-pump conversion... I just pulled the VE (similar injector line setup) off my 89 last night in about an hour. It was my first time doing it and I pulled the lines and a bunch of other crap off while I was there...

For What It's Worth
I'm as green to diesel's as anyone and just had a VP44 go out on me as well. In a word.... EASY!!! Even though Dogde packed the engine compartment with a shoe horn, it was'nt that bad. If you can get a puller and line the "key" up, I'd guarantee you easily be done in a day. I ordered mine from Diesel Auto Power and am more than pleased. The only thing I'd highly recommend in an aftermarket (FASS or Airdog) lift pump.
