s.o. or h.o. vp44 on h.o. truck?
is there any gain in running a s.o. pump over the h.o.? i am reading mixed reviews and was wondering because i am going to be replacing my vp44.
---AutoMerged DoublePost--- am i going to see a gain with the s.o. pump? my truck has airdog 150,s&b cold air, edge comp, exhaust |
SO can properly fuel larger injectors properly. SO is good up to 300HP, HO up to 200HP Max. Best bang for the buck is an SO pump.

If you have a s.o truck you have to run a s.o if you had a h.o truck you can run either. S.o is good for more hp. H.0 can only support up to like 500hp where the s.o is good for 700hp.

Only problem is if you order a SO pump most places will not accept a HO Core.

Not sure what pump my truck has. I have tried to look it up but cant find anything on it.

p pump....... :ha: |
What is your end goal for the truck?
|
whats the difference between the pumps? why would s.o. pump be able to push more hp than h.o. pump?
|
Standard output has larger plungers in it i guess.
|
is there a way to tell which pump you have? i have a h.o. motor but my injection pump was replaced with a refurbished i.p. before i bought it.

Diesel Power, or Diesel World magazine did a write up on them at one time. That is where I go those numbers from. I'll try and find that mag again.
|
the serial number should end in 028 if it is a high output bosch pump
|
With help from my good friend Google, I found the SO has 8mm plungers where as the HO has 7mm.

ok cool, just wanted to know. i always wondered why the guys with h.o.s would swap to a s.o. pump. thanks for the knowledge guys

my goal is around 500-600hp because the i dont want to go to crazy because the high compression. are afermarket injectors the same for h.o and s.o motors? would stock s.o inj work better than h.o inj since the s.o inj flow a little better?

Here's the break down between s.o and h.o. Standard output pumps run as a high volume low pressure setup compared to the HO which is setup for a less volume more pressure. HO motors actually are supposed to have slightly higher compression than the SO motors and the injectors I've heard are set a little higher pop off stock. HO pumps are designed and will give more low end grunt but lack in the higher end where SO pumps shine. Personally when my HO went out I went SO because I didn't like how doggy it was after 2k. Since I put on a SO pump my truck feels like it runs harder than my old truck did being an SO motor SO pump. Since both pumps were new when I got the truck I think it's fair even though the seat of the pants feeling isn't scientific or completely factual but SO pumps are more reliable than HO and I love the way it drives now. I went through blue chip and called first to ask if I could exchange a HO for a SO and he said not a problem so I would call around and ask if anyone will. I know I've been pleased with my blue chip pump and although it was a little pricey I opted for the one built with new parts and that had updated design internally and externally with updated computer settings and design to avoid issues.
