P0462 - fuel level sending unit volts too low
 

when i bought the truck the fuel guage never moved. always stayed empty. the PO said he checked everything from the tank to the engine compartment, but couldnt find anything..

when i first put a program on the truck with smarty (SW#3), the fuel guage moved all the way up and stayed there for a few minutes, then dropped and hasnt moved since. why would it move when connecting the smarty to it, but never move otherwise? still doesnt read anything.. anybody have any info on where to begin to check this problem??

it proably moves the instument panel guages to check to see if guages are working my guess lol, but I dont need to repeat anything Ive already PM you about, but its most likely the sending unit in the tank, but you can test it by using a volt meter and see if there any juice to it...

i HATE not knowing my fuel level and resetting the ODO every time.. half the time i forget to reset it and end up driving then getting confused so i have to fill back up again :scare2:

Just if you get the urge to do it just run your tank low on diesel and drop the tank, undo the connection pull the sending unit our and replace it... but like I said you can check it with a volt meter... Im not sure if the Fuel Sending unit has an activating unit such as the Temp and oil pressure gauge were they have a sensor the knows if there heat, or oil pressure and then turns on the sending unit that mesures the temperature and oil pressure...

Ford, dodge, chevy they all have the quirks, but dodge is by far the simpilist to deal with...

ill see if my uneducated self can figure it out :jump:

only problem my ford ever has was the engine! and that damn axle bearing that wont stop squeaking :argh: (should probably change that sooner or later)
