high beam light stays on when truck is off

i have a 98.5 and the high beam light stays on when the truck is completly off and ive been having charging problems so i started with the alt replaced that got new batteries it worked for a while then stopped charging so i got a reman pcm that fixed for about a month then quit again i got a new crank positioning sensor that didnt help and just today i wired in an external regulator directly into the alt bypassing the whole pcm but its still not charging when the truck is on so i was wondering if i might have a bad cluster or somthing i could also have the regulator wired wrong but im tiered of driving my yota PLEASE HELP!

I would remove and inspect the light switch on the dash and in the steering column. I know that at one time Dodge had some issues with the wiring harness and switch melting due to too much current being pulled through an inadequate design for the switch and harness.

both, you will see heat damage....

this is an example of what you will be looking for

while you are in there look at the wires in the steering column and behind the gauge cluster. ANY signs of heat damage will warrant further investigation o the source of the problem.

these images are random online and not of a Dodge, just an idea what to look for. if you see nothing then you will have to disconnect the batteries, and then connect a volt meter that can measure amperage in line with the positive cable to the truck and the battery. it will show what the current draw is with the key turned off. then one at a time remove the fuses in the fuse box, noting what the amperage reading is. I would remove the one or the dome light first since the door will be open during testing. once you find the fuse that has the MOST change in the current reading then you know what circuit to then look further into.

it sounds hard but is rather easy to do.

the bad thing is I had some service manuals but I believe they were saved on my external HD that crashed a while back and I wasn't able to recover anything off of it.
