HELP! truck died

on my way home cruzing at normal speed 5th gear and all of a sudden it just craps out and the engine dies. no noises like the engine exploded or anything. also dident sound like it ran out of fuel. just died. truck ran flawlessly never had a problem. so it dies and the engine light comes on. towed it home checked lift pump and its fine. checked injector pump and fuel did come out of the line. Anyone heard of or had something like this happen??? i think it might be something electronic?? idk

thanks

ray

Going through the same dilema. Had 15-16 psi on both sides of the fuel filter canister, so the lift pump is fine, and fuel comes through the injector lines, but it "WON'T" start. From what I understand, it's got be coming through the injectors line with high pressure to start. I'm new to diesel's so it's learning process for me. Go through the 3 step process on Blue Chip's website....pretty easy. May be a seized rotor in the IP?

Check for codes yet?

Does the tach show speed while cranking?

Rayrod 11-18-2012 12:10 PM

no i havent checked the codes or checked to see if the tach shows speed while cranking. i will check that today. what could i mean if the tach comes up while cranking?

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

also when i check the injector lines the fuel should just be coming out of one line at a time??? i pulled the third injector line of and it had lots of fuel maybe not enough pessure? like luckyjoe704 said. wondering if it is just the injection pump. gota check the codes today though

If the tach shows no speed, it its likely your crank position sensor failed. The computer needs this signal to know where the pistons are, and when to inject fuel.

checekd the tach. it is showing rpm while cranking over. dont have a device to check the codes so i will have to get my hands on one throught the week here. im just confused because the truck ran perfectly fine and out of the blue it happened.

thanks for the help

Injection pump failures can happen like that. Most the time an injection pump fails its due to electronics.

Choose readers can be as cheap as $10. Very basic, and will only give the code number, but then you can look that number up.
