Shocks for a 2wd

Hey guys,

I just put a 2" leveling kit from Fat Bob's Garage on my 2002 2500 2wd. I had to end up cutting the top bolts off because they were so corroded, and while not anticipating buying new shocks had to settle for the cheapo Gabriel shocks at Autozone.

I want to replace them with something much better because the ride is nothing short of terrible right now...:s: If you can believe it, it's MUCH worse than the truck was before...potholes make my kidneys hurt.

So my question, I have not been able to find clear info about 2wd shocks with a 2" leveling kit. I've found plenty that will work with the 2wd but nothing stating for lifted/leveled trucks.

I've checked out the blue/yellow Bilsteins but not sure if those will work.

Thanks

You need 2 inch extensions or 2" longer shocks. I'd recomend the Bilsteins, I have the blue and yellow but hear the black and silver are better :c:

I am looking for a shock that is long enough where I won't need extensions for a 2wd if such thing exists.

shocks from a 04 chevy 4x4 work. thats what i put on mine cause my boss had them laying around.

I added air bags for ~$80 from jcw to the front of my 99. I Never touched the shocks although they are probably worn out and it rides great. It may be a problem with your coil springs if pot holes are killing you. Either way its ~$80, about an hour of work and in the end you will have more load capacity if nothing else.

I'm positive that the cheapo shocks are causing the problem...remember they're recommended for stock height so i'm already stretching them past their design capabilities.

Will 2wd billsteins work with my 2" lift?

Won't you be stretching them again? Fat Bob's has 2" longer shocks with their leveling kit (http://4x4.fatbobsgarage.com/dodge-r...ent-p1740.aspx)

Why not call and ask for a part number then try and cross reference it, or by the shocks from Bobs?

i did the sat thing and called fat bobs and they sent me shocks for a dodge 4x4 and there to long. so idk if they didnt understand or what. but dodge 4x4 shocks wont work

What are other 2wd owners using with their leveling kits?

dolla_hite 11-26-2012 08:31 PM

did you ever find a replacement shock?
