anyone else, or am i just a dumbass?? towing mirrors..

well got my towing mirrors in today and went through the process of taking off both door panels and both old mirrors...

i tried to put the new towing mirror on, but it seems like it wont line up with the door. i called the people i ordered from, and they said that it should fit my year model (2001, 2500), and also the studs wont go through the mounting bracket far enough to get my nuts on...

already dark out, so will have to continue tomorrow if i decide to.. should i send the mirrors back and get different ones, or are they all the same...? i ordered them from AM Autoparts - After Market Auto Parts - Headlights, Mirrors, and More off of ebay. they have a 99.9% positive rating.. i dont want to pay return shipping and get the same damn thing shipped back... anybody else have trouble getting their studs through the brackets far enough? :argh:

Did you get power/ heated mirrors or just manual ones?

There is a specific way to run the wires if you got power ones, if you don't do it correct it can cut the wires leading to no operation, also could interfere with clearance.

Ltk 10-11-2012 06:38 PM

i got power heated mirrors and i thought that i should just shove the wires through the holes :humm:

H.R.D 10-11-2012 06:39 PM

Naw man you have to route them a specific way. I will try to find the diagram to help you understand how to do it.

Ltk 10-11-2012 07:24 PM

ok thank you. i almost filled out the return form!

itll have to be done tomorrow after work.. shes sitting out there in the cold with no flippers :(

gotta drive the 6.oh god tomorrow :argh: :jump:

Ltk 10-11-2012 10:49 PM

Yea i got the bracket haha.

The problem is it seems like the mirrors werent made for my truck. The studs wont go far enough in the bracket for me to get the nuts on :argh:

1AMatt 10-12-2012 04:44 PM

Yea there is a specific way to route the wire... I just dont remember, and cant find it on my computer :argh:

CR9712v 10-12-2012 07:26 PM

dont you get new studs with the bracket?

Ltk 10-12-2012 07:35 PM

I got it guys. And nope the brackets didnt come with any.

The wire had to be routed, and the little small brackets holding the wire in place had to come off for some reason.. Then it had to be positioned right and it fit. Had to turn one nut upside down because it wouldnt thread with that washer on it for some reason. Cant believe this was as time consuming as it was

Haha. Hey any interest in hooking a brother up with a passenger side mirror if its power heated?

I'm in the same boat. I have the manual mirrors. Thinking of just getting a strap on.:tttt:

angelic0- 10-13-2012 12:57 PM

i crave towing mirrors...

Ltk 10-13-2012 09:35 PM

Mine were $195 from am-autoparts, and 20 for the support brackets

chadcycle 2500 10-13-2012 09:42 PM

The studs are too short on the aftermarket mirrors. I took the studs from the original mirrors they are longer, can't beleive they would make them too short & they know it!< put them in the new mirrors bolted up just fine.(towing mirrors):pca1:

Ltk 10-14-2012 01:20 AM

my studs were long enough on mine.. my stop mirrors were like an inch long studs.. the towing mirror studs were 2.5 inches long. it was long enough after i realized that the wire bracket was hitting the rubber bushing...:rocking:
