Dodge crappin out...

i have a 2001.5 dodge ram with the 5.9 cummins. the rest is at the bottom
i was timeing my 351 vgt turbo by removing the electronics and moving the arm and then putting them on. i changed the position several times and on my 4th or 5th try i fired up the truck pulled it out of the garage and it was running funnny.

i have found out i have no turbo operation any more
and i have 3 codes
P1689 - not comunication between ecm and fuel pump
p02** - low bost
P16** - Companion Code(states there is a code on the ecm)

** i do not remeber the exact numbers.

my truck ran funny would only hit 1400 rmp was in limp mode getting there.
i cleared the code and it runs fine. the code came back after about 130min of driving and the truck still runs fine. only issue the vgt turbo still does not work.

i am cleaning all grounds i can find and cheacking relays but i have no clue were to go if that does not work.

please let me know if you have any knowledge on what to do.

Ohh, I cant help you sorry, maybe try contacting Rawwilliams or HRD I think both of them have done some research on the VGT swap can can lead to helping you fix the gremlin hiding somewhere..

vcustoms has done the VGT swap also. one of those 3 should know :tu:

Yes I completly forgot he has done that too!! Its a shame too, hes the one that gave me my Colorado Cummins Flag..

Ltk 10-11-2012 08:48 PM

haha that is a shame!

scottmorgan 10-11-2012 09:45 PM

yeah but i think the vgt turbo is not working because of the fuel pump not comunicating to the ecm. the turbo runns of the amount of fuel being applied and if the truck dont know how would the turbo. i need to get rid of my truck not comunicating with my ecm first. the bgt turbo is the least of my worries.

Im trying to think I ran accross a good article about this issue Im trying to find it, If I remeber right it was something simple

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

To ask a simple question did you every check your relays?

scottmorgan 10-12-2012 01:38 PM

yeah i did but i can not find a fuse for it. just the relay. so im going to check all my relays and fuses again. and i have re done all the grounds i could find. if its like the old chevys when the water temp sencer gets fucked up it causes the hole system to go heywire. i let out some fluid while timeing my vgt turbo. It could have messed with the temp sencor on my truck. ill replace that and pray to god it works. its a long shot but if it works ill be supper happy!

RanchhandTCR 10-12-2012 06:19 PM

I kinda doubt it but hey if its works :tu:

scottmorgan 10-15-2012 01:41 PM

well lets just say that stab in the dark was a no go.... still not finding anything... could it be my pump if my truckis runnig just fine?

So, this is to the OP you took the electronics off and moved the arm controlling the nozzles and then reinstalled the electronics? If so that is your problem you can't just randomly take stuff apart and move it around and expect it to work right. You need to have a professional recalibrate your VGT.

scottmorgan 10-22-2012 01:33 PM

i took it appart way before it was on my truck. that is when i found out that they are timed together. so when it was on my truck i was timeing it. i got very close and then i moved it one more notch fired it up and then my truck sputtuerd and died. started it back up and i had check engine light. then the turbo no longer changed its position. to fix this i have cleaned all the grounds i could find and i think i have it fixed because the check engine light went away but the turbo still does not work. so i think if i replace the turbo it will be good as new.

Ltk 10-22-2012 06:29 PM

if its a brand new turbo, i wouldnt go replacing it. something just isnt right..

of course im no help, but i wouldnt go throwing another VGT in there. gonna have the same problem again :s:

VGTs IMO are the way to go, you're just not supposed to take them apart and mess with them. :tu:
