Water in front end

Anybody else have this problem with their front axle? I changed the front differential oil 9 months ago because it was milky. I just checked it this weekend and it was really milky just like before. It's not the cover seal and the pinion seal is fine

do you wheel/offroad the truck? are there any signs of gear oil leaking out?, and check the vent tube to see if the cap is still on it.

GuyWithA24Valve 09-10-2012 12:38 PM

Nope, just snow in the winter up here. Otherwise it's all on road/ dry dirt. No mud or water fording. The cap is still on the breather. The pinion seal is not leaking, and the cover isn't either. I'm guessing theres axle seals way up the tubes by the housing?

I bet you drive through a creek on occasion. It's coming in from one of three places. The axle seals, the pinion seal, or the vent tube

I don't drive through any water. Honest to God. Just snow in the winter. Which the deepest it's been through is up to the front bumper. But that was 2 years ago. We barely got 3 inches at one time this past winter

maybe some how its condensating in there? when you say milky, is it foaming up too? and what brand gear oil are you running?

GuyWithA24Valve 09-10-2012 02:45 PM

Something's going on. It's Lucas gear oil. It's not foaming but there are some bubbles building up

GuyWithA24Valve 09-11-2012 02:19 AM

I'll have to check that out. I can't really tell if the axle seals are leaking, but I'll take a closer look at those too
