Issues with new torque converter

My transfer case grinds in and out of 4 low. Seems to be more pronounced now that the new torque converter is in. Put it in neutral and if you move it gently against the low gear you can feel the gears rotating pretty fast. If you slam it home it will go, but pretty big grind into gear. If I turn off the truck, it goes in fine as long as rolling a bit.

I suppose I could live with it as is, but it is concerning as I do a lot of hunting.

My diagnosis is that since the torque converter is so strong, the tail shaft of the tranny is spinning pretty fast. I can go 15 mph when at idle on flat ground. Has it's benefits and draw backs...draw backs, braking is harder, feel like I should pop it into neutral when sitting in traffic or a light. Benefits...21.88 mpg on my last freeway run!!!! Gained 3 mpg. Moves and accelerates with lower rpm's.

Is it normal for these tranny's to search for gears at 30-40 mph? It shifts down while decelerating and shifts up while accelerating. Certain speeds and conditions its going back and forth a lot. I believe its going between 3rd and lock up.

Seems like everything is give and take. Hope to get some good feedback.

Thanks:jump:
