Toasted VP44 Where to go now?
 

I lost my VP pump this week and have been debating on what to do. Who has the more reliable VP's for sale? How long can I expect the new one to last if I tap my comp box on it as soon as it is installed? Should I get a SO or hot rod pump? The truck is not head studded and I run the stock turbo, and injectors. Also wondering if I do HRVP or SO with injectors(75-150's) and my stock turbo what kind of power gains could I expect and would that be safe power(not to hot or to smokey)? ANY INPUT IS GREATLY APPRECIATED!!

Industrial Injection Is a good way to go... I just put a new one on myself from a vendor here. Diesel Dawgs.. Luke will get you a good deal on one. And you can tap the pump as soon as you install it just put a stealth plate on the vp44 before it is in the truck makes for an easier install. I got a HO vp but I have a 6spd I would stick with the SO pump and go with 75-100hp injectors and it should do pretty well! The hot rod pump just comes with timing added already "in a since" I have heard it doesnt stack good with some timing chips...Good luck

I am being told that change out of the VP44 is not an on the road fix? Makes me nervous that it can go out at anytime without recourse of fix while miles from a paved road. Any good solutions?

Change it out now... Before it goes out if you are having problems with it.

Thanks dieselmanstan for the input. I am thinking SO replacement with injectors and probably gonna go with a bigger lift pump. Luke, think you could make me some kind of package deal??:w2:

a 95 series pump will supply all the power a vp can make on fuel. So no need to go huge. But a good aftermarket lift pump is the way to go. A so pump is a great choice for a pump and 75hp injectors will be a great match with your turbo etc

Not on the road fix? Basic hand tools and a pump puller and you can change it anywhere you like lol

The vp44 is a good pump if you feed it the fuel it requires and monitor the fuel pressure.
