Leaking Oil!! :(

Im leaking oil under my power steering pump. it could be engine oil or trans oil but i cant tell the difference because of the change of color when it hits my dirty frame and other parts. I live on a dirt road so i have many problems seeing things when it happens. my trans cooler lines are right near the spot to so i was thinking it could be them also. I havent seen any where else it could be leaking from. if anybody has had this problem please let me know!

smell the oil tranny fluid has a completly different smell compared to diesel engine oil. It kinda smell like diesel exhaust if its oil. But vaccum pump or a bad seal on your steering pump

I took it to the shop and they said it was the vacuum pump. its too high to be the blow by off of the IP. he said 275$ and its fixed. He said i have to buy a kit and blah blah. but he said it would take him 2 hours..Would i be able to do this myself? I have mechanical know how and all the tools in the world. Im just wondering if it would be too hard of a thing to do.

While your at it double check your lifter cover on the side of the block. Mine started pouring oil. Was told it was the vacuum pump. turned out it was that lifter cover gasket had cracked. it has like 3-4 bolts holinf to the block and is located right behind the IP.

If your good with wrenches, theres a video on just about every common fix for a cummins on youtube. Thats what I usually do, watch several then tackle the project. save myself alot of money.
