Intake? best for the money

Hey guys Ive been needing to redo my intake for awhile now, Im tired of my stock filter gettin fill of crud, but I would also like to relpace the intake horn, What the best bang for the buck for a poor rancher lol. I hate to drop 200 Bucks for a filter and a piece of sheet metal, thats cost 100 bucks, any of you guys redneck rigged you air filters, but Im lookin for suggestions, I want to put a edge ez in but I rather get it rid of our asthma problems. Id appreciate you input. Thanks guys..

BHAF and leave your horn, it is far from a restriction until you are putting down pretty serious power. I hear lots of noise about the BHAF not being a cold air intake, but I don't really buy into it all the way. You are cramming all that air into a turbo and an intercooler, a few degrees intake temperature isn't going to make a huge difference.

Search Google for bhaf part numbers. Search eBay for one. I got mine for around 40 shipped! Or if you wanna message me I'm thinking of trying to rig one out of a fewdifferent things and maybe ill get Aberdeen price if I order enough for a couple

Dodgemanstan 08-01-2012 05:42 PM

BHAF, AutoZone can get it. Or do some research online...

I've been looking at intakes as well. It's hard to choose because there are so many options out there.

One thing that got me, was the horsepower ratings. If you look for example at the K&N intake for our trucks, they rate it's HP gains at 2260RPM, a bit higher than I normally run. I'm not sure how it performs between say 1500 and 2000 where I normally drive.

Well you peak horse power is in the 2200RPM range and your peak torque is in 1800 RPM range, so you gonna have the gain somewhat through out acceleration, but you not gonna notice a huge difference in you driving, IM not looking for gain im looking for easier breathing for my truck...

I have a bhaf . I also am going to install a custom intake plate that I have and a pusher horn. Will let you know the results.

ill make it eeasy and cheap for you....
go to orielys and buy the 4" open cone style air filter.
then go to the hard wair store and buy a aluminum vent joint and use it as the backing plate
no you got all the stuff how to make..
1remove top of air box
2put backing plate into the existing air inlet hose
3put the filter on the backing plate
4 tighten clamps
thats it leave the top of the box in a safe place but it will not get wet and will pull more air..
this will alow for a faster spool and a loader turbo. any q's just ask fpr pics just tx 13092589035

Dodgemanstan 08-03-2012 09:00 AM

BHAF and stock air horn.... Best buy for the money... Washable filters are a joke...and K&N is just a name... You can not beat the bhaf!

scottmorgan 08-03-2012 09:15 AM

how do i put tem on here? its the same set up as the bhaf but you dont have any wait time and its only as exspecvie as the filter you pic out.

Dodgemanstan 08-03-2012 03:51 PM

I have no wait time... Every auto zone can get one, or local diesel shop... They are plentiful around here... I even thought becoming a dealer for them and sell filters all over...

scottmorgan 08-03-2012 03:56 PM

well there you go.. as you can see the rewashable filters dont work as wel so i would go with that one!

I can give ya my email thru PM you can send me pics that way if you want me to. They only think I dislike is how big that sucker is, but I agree with the article and most likely will go that route.

RanchhandTCR 08-04-2012 07:40 PM

Well guys I can honestly say Im not to sure about the BHAF, I like the idea of a washable filter here is my reasons why. I live out in farm country and in the spring winds exceed 60 mph and truck breath nothing but dusty air. I agree that their problems are that the elements can tear, and you can over oil them. I talked to a deiesel shop I trust and they use to run the filters, reason they quite is because with the amount of dust we drive in espicially when I go out to fix a tractor in a freshly plowed field the dust builds up fast, I usually get minature sand dunes under my hood, plus I also have a K&N for my stock set up and I pulled the enitire unit out and checked the turbo and its spotless, nothing like shown in the article. Im not saying hes wrong! and I still agree with him, but I rather spend 40 bucks on a washable filter rather than one that I have to replace 4 times a year. I also dont plan keeping a Washable filter forever, I know they wear just like everything else, but I just want something that makes my truck breathe betters and is easy to maintain can clean. Im not shunning away from the BHAF but it seems that it may be more for the high way trucks and not farm and ranch trucks. But maybe someone can prove me wrong. Just a thought I had, my biggest problem is I want a shield or something to hold it down that doesnt look like S*** I can go and look around for some sheet meatal and cut out a shild and by some half inch foam to put on top and paint it blue..

93DodgeDiesel 08-05-2012 06:44 PM

I was looking for some last night didnt find anything that cheap they were actually more expensive Ill look again though..

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

Im just kinda torn between the two I would not hesitate with the BHAF but Im concerned of how long its going to last me, I have no doubt they are a great filter but I just dont want to have to replace it constantly...

dieseldude848 08-05-2012 11:57 PM

A pre filter will help with the dust problem
