12V to a 24V Head Swap???

Ok just got my 91.5 back from the trans shop and had a new lockup silinoid put in and a new TPS sensor put on and replaced some linkage and a new drop down leaveror throttle cable whatever it is put on and fully flushed and serviced and had my bands tightened and this thing runs like a dream!!!!! But now i'm wanting to do something else. The motor is bone stock and has 200,000 miles and no blow by and doesnt use any oil or water and sounds tight!!! And starts right up everytime.

I was wondering if i could swap out the 12V head with a 24V???? Maybe a high performance one???

And I'm also wanting to swap pumps while im at it. What would be the best pump???? Lookin to go with a P Pump but what about something newer????

Also at the same time I'm puttin on an AirDog pump and swaping out the exhaust and compressor housings on the turbo.

Heads a waste if time and $ since you can make a 12v work just as good or better, like in my case. 180hp p pump it and smile

Yeah I know theres alot you can do to these 12 valves but im just wondering if swapping to a high performance 24V head will give you a huge power increase???? And can it be done??

It can be done but unless your doing really high performance sled pulling you don't need it. a 12v head is just fine for making big power like people put down over 1000hp on 12v heads all the time. But for sure go with a 180hp p-pump. it has the same delivery valves as the bigger 215hp pump but can take more performance parts n if I'm not mistake be made to flow more then a 180 pump. I know like rack plugs are not needed on 215hp pumps but I think i've heard with one they can runaway if not your careful.

From what I understand, 24V was more of an emissions thing than anything else. You definitely won't get any huge power increase.

Ok so a stock 12V head has no hp diff from a 24V? And I was thinkin about a P-Pump but what about a VP44?

Red_Rattler 07-19-2012 07:42 PM

Of course a 24v head in stock form will out flow a stock 12v head, more air is a good thing but to make the 24v head work you will need different pistons injectors injection lines push rods and on and on... Now if you take that money and use it wisely on a 12v head, it will flow the same and better than a 24v and your money ahead. Just look at the injector price difference alone.

side note a vp-44 would be a bad idea....

What would I need to make the 12V head better?

Also I figured out what was wrong with my trans, if you've seen my other thread I had problems with my truck lugging down and its actually my pump is going bad at idle. So I'm puttin a new pump on it just not sure which way to go. I'll probably go with P-Pump.

Whats wrong with the VP44's?

its electronically controlled. your head needs a good port and polish and some o-rings.

flyingcrodeo 07-20-2012 12:41 PM

Ohhhhh ok I see I see, well that sounds like something i'll probably do and i'll be ordering the p-pump pretty soon as well. I think i'm going with an 180hp one. That and port and polishing the head, then an air dog, along with swapping the compressor housings on the turbo should make it run pretty good huh?? :humm:
