Reality versus Fantasy

Well let me start off with hello how are you guys? This is my first post here and I hope I can get some good ideas on what I can do to make power out of my First Gen Cummins

TO start I am actually in the middle of the build/restore process. My Cummins is going into a 1975 F250 4X4.

Anyways I am looking more at the DIY and Custom work stuff. I want to do as much of it as I can myself. Dont worry about me having the ability or the equipment I got a whole machines shop out in my garage (Maybe could help some of you guys out too!)

Anyways I am shooting for about 500 horses to put threw my T18. I have seen a picture but cant find it real quick of a guy who had compounds on his First Gen, and had a 5 inch exhaust (He's my hero) and I would like to do something like that. Anyways what are some good things to do, and the air intake is the big thing I cant seem to grasp, I find no aftermarket intake, but I heard second gens fit. I want to know all I can about the First Gen air intakes so I might be able to make something custom up!!!

Thanks guys much appreciated!!

it is going to be a challenge to make 500 ponies with the VE injection pump.

the air intakes arnt really of importance on the intercooled trucks, least on the 2nd gens its more of a bling factor unless you are after every possible pony which you wont be at just 500.

a set of small twins with enough fuel will get you to and beyond 500 fuel dilivery is just gonna be your issue. look into converting it to a p-pump way more options and WAY easier to get to 500.

Well I love P-Pumps and if I had a 1000 more dollars I could have bought a P-Pump cummins but alas I dont and I know on average a P-Pump conversion is about 1K but I may. Also camshafts, anyone runt hem and are they worth it?

Awesome project! Maybe take it easy on the power goals just yet, a solid 300-400 hp with around 800 lbft is pretty impressive in the seat of the pants. However with the amount of $ it will take to get it to the 500 range, another $1k for a p pump will be a drop in a bucket, plus it would be much more usable. That said good luck, I hope you stay first gen through and through!

6-16 injectors, S300 turbo, and nitrous will fetch 450hp for less than $1,500.

thats the cheapest and easyest, however you won't be towing with it.

Well I may change to a P-Pump if I can find all the stuff. I want to be packing! I plan on a cam, fabing up my own 'Twin Ram' intake. Water/Meth injection, a nice big intercooler, and I want to do compounds but part of me want to figure out a nice single turbo setup so they let me pull in the street diesel class!!!!!!

you can run a super B in most work stock classes.---MOST--- they generally let you slide
