Looking for performance mods advice
I have a stock (besides K&N filter & removal of stock muffler) 1993 Dodge D350, ext. cab with 185,000 miles, Cummins 12v, auto and a completely stock 1991 (non-intercooled) Dodge D250 reg cab with 127,000 miles, Cummins 12v, auto (engine currently being removed from the truck for a swap into a Suburban).
I want to begin modifying both of these engines but would like to get some advice/suggestions from others with more experience modifying these 12 valves. I want to increase my HP/TQ while still having a dependable, long lasting engine. I would like to keep the smoke to a minimum under normal driving conditions if possible but if thats not realistic then I'll take the smoke. I don't know if either of these have had the KDP problem fixed so I want to take care of that as well (I bought both trucks used, the '93 with 145,000 miles 7 years ago & the '91 with 126,000 miles 2 months ago). I have a few things in mind I plan to do from reading up on these engines such as turning up the pump, fuel pin, 3200rpm spring, boost & exhaust temp gauges. I will also be adding an intercooler to the engine being swapped into the Suburban. After reading up on injector selection & changing turbo housing or a completely new turbo I am thoroughly confused on what would work best for me to add power while still having a reliable engine. If anyone has any advice or suggestions on mods for injectors, my current turbos or if I would benefit from buying different turbos I would appreciate the help. Also if you know of any other mods in addition to my short list I already have. I don't use my '93 to pull often (its mostly been used when I need to haul something or when I'm not on 2 wheels) & when I do its only an antique tractor or two so I rarely have much weight behind it. I'm not planning on taking it to the track or anything & not planning on having too much power for my stock auto, although if there are relativly cheap mods I can do to my transmission I'd be interested in that too. The other engine going in the Suburban will get a little more abuse than the truck & I will be interested in sinking a little more $ into mods on this one, but like I said I would still like to have it reliable for years to come so not get to wild with it. I plan on running about 37" tires and will be doing some wheeling in it but also probably drive it as a daily driver more than my truck. I haven't decided whether I want an auto or manual but I'm planning on sinking some money in the transmission as well since it will see more abuse. Thanks for your help |
I am right about 500hp and it was fairly easy to obtain with minimal amount of smoke...
I have a super B turbo and 90lbs injectors with an M3 (manual fuel pin) 4inch down pipe to 5inch exhaust and one hell of a K&N filter.. cranked the timing on the fuel pin a little and BAM .... I have been making 500 at sea level for almost 3 years and pull heavy weight regularly.. recently moved to 6500 and had to turn my fuel down and still am pulling just under 400 to the wheels.. I run 38 15.50 20 M/T's and it hauls ass boy! If I stand on it in 3rd gear with a little water on the ground the truck will walk on me.:choochoo: I am editing this because I must say I wasnt quite 500hp high 400's though. |
500hp? Off of those mods?

I can believe 300ish was a correction factor used on the dyno?
