4200 is the one I've heard of. Need stronger valve springs to not float them though at that rpm.

354 is in fact the 4200 spring; it's slightly too long, small modification and you're good to go. Valve springs are desirable, under load the engine shouldn't even see anything close to 4200. Free revving it's a good possibility but the VE sounds like its going to come out from under the hood at those rpms .

well my 3200 rpm spring doesnt crank over 2500 rpms and i believe its cause the ve stops fueling to 2600-2800, i can crank it to 3200 but it looses power and is harder on stuff so whats the point , what would the purpose of a 4200rpm gov spring be, even better throtle response?

Im not a guru with the pumps just yet but most of the time after a spring install guys think that it will just turn as many RPM's as the spring is rated to but the lift pump wont keep up. Not sure if this is completly true but thats my first guess. I know some guys with the 354 spring and they run a pistion LP or a airdog/fass setup to keep the VE fueled.

Like tower said they shouldnt see close to 4200 but some guys who pull with them like to have the range of RPM's to work with.

I hooked a sled with the 3200 and in 4 low with my 4wd not working; just two wheel spinning. With the weight I had enough traction to actually keep the truck from tach'ing out. I didn't feel the truck was getting nearly enough wheel speed and rpms. Since then I've installed the 4200 spring, AFC delete, head studs and valve springs. Haven't had a chance to pull the truck since then to see if there was any desirable results. Some have said the 4200 spring is too responsive for driving on the streets but that's a bunch of crap. Throttle response is definitely there but it isn't as rough as people describe; not with the VE. A P pump maybe. They're naturally nasty.

You basically cut a coil out of one end of the spring then cave a single coil in to make a hook. It shortens the spring. It'd work installed as is, but you'd have to gain a spline or two on your throttle index to take up the slack; but since the throttle shafts lever inside the pump is such a short throw you sacrifice gov arm travel. I had to do some digging to find the 354 spring. You'll want the peace of mind with the heavier valve springs with the 4200 spring; honestly i'd run them with anything close to an elevated boost level. I assume you have an upgraded lift pump? The diaphragm pump wouldn't keep up with your mods as is with the stock gov spring.

i run the 4200 spring and love it you MUST run heavy valve springs and I recommend upgrading your push rods as well I sell everything including the spring shoot me a PM if you want
