Stuck ve injector pump gear

I started removing the injector pump today. Pretty easy until we started pulling the pump drive/timing gear. Our puller was straight and the gear "popped" right away. However as we continued the gear became stuck. Apoun reaching monkey strength we stopped turning the puller and backed off. As we backed off the gear receeded some as though it was on a spring, not jammed as if it simply stuck by goo on the shaft. Both timing pin and injector lock pin were engaged ie locked. Has anyone had this happen or does anyone know if the gears are straight cut or heli- cut. If they are heli-cut I suspect this could cause the gears to bind during removal. But not much out there about it.

helical

there is really no need to remove the gear if your just taking the pump off. Break if loose and leave it in the front case. then you dont have to worry about TDC and timing everything, since they have a woodruff key its super easy.

Thanks, I guess it is standard protocal to leave the gear in the housing. I wish manuals were a little more clear or perhaps I was more literate.
