Default Swapping my stock turbo for an HX35? any input?

Ok the wife finally gave me the go ahead to upgrade my turbo guess its my christmas present. I am buying the turbo from a very well known diesel performance shop in the area and I am curious do I need to or should I want to change out my down pipe at this time from the stock one? I have from just under the cab jumped my exhaust up to 4" already and thats feeding into 5" stacks. Also can anyone recommend a low cost (short budget) upgrade for the intake side of the turbo? i.e. tube you used from something else and or a good filter? I am convinced the slinky hose although its small is still costing me that little extra power I am after. Just trying to think outside the box basically. Thanks guys and merry christmas!

i would buy the down pipe. it will keep the turbo that much cooler. are you talking like home made cold air, easy to do, or the 60mm compressor upgrade for the hx35?

I think for now just home made easy to do type. Like I mentioned kind of a short budget. I was toying with the idea of using some large PVC pipe? IDK

just keep your joints to a minimum it will be fine. put a pre-filter over whatever cone filter you get. sneak the 3200 gov spring by the wife if you can!!!

I used a ABS plumbing 3-to-4-inch adapter. There is a ridge inside you want to take out with a coarse quarter-round file. Its not the highest flow solution (due to the thick wall), but sounds and feels like an improvement. I used a Wix 44637 (4" throat).

Edit: might have been a 3½ to 4" adapter... the one side has a 4" OD and the other has a 4½" OD.

I have a nice big Donaldson a buddy gave me from his powerchoker that I wanted to put on but was unsure how much suction was there as to what piping to use. I know the smoother the pipe the better flow and am seriously considering the 4 in dp just gotta see what it will cost me. I need to pull the injectors this winter too and check the pressures so they are all top notch. I have read from alot of you guys that the 3200 spring and a denny T pin or comparable makes a difference it makes me itch to do that upgrade as well. LOL I just want a solid 200 hp to the ground and only have 25 to go so this should all do it.

did the hx-35w swap on my cummins with a turn or two on the pump and that thing screams....just make sure to pull the silencer ring out for some real whistle. and check out the sticky for your home-made air intake. There's some good ideas in there.

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

I did some looking online for a turbo today as the guy that I was gonna get mine from quoted me 150 over the original quote 2 months ago. I found an HX35 from cx racing on ebay suppose to be brand new in the box delivered to my door for around 300? Does this sound fishy or a good buy? It says it replaces the turbo for a 96 thru 98 with a manual, this shouldn't cause any prolem on my old auto should it?
