Anyone whos had a torqure converter problem or converted to A518 tranny help?

I ran into a problem with puttin my new A518 tranny in. i did have a 727 in it. The problem im having is i have the torque converter all the way on and when i bolt the tranny up to the motor everything binds up and i cant even turn the motor over by hand. its not the stock torque converter its been built to a different stall speed and is more heavy duty. it had a different back welded on that is thicker than the original but it was supposidly built to the proper specs to compensate for the thick flexplate i bought. the only thing i can think of is that the torque converter was built wrong internally or i need a spacer like i can get from PATC. cuz if i leave tranny unbolted with about a 1/16th of an inch gap between the two i can spin the torque converter and motor like i should be able to. any ideas on what i should do?

I cant remember if the 518 uses a different engine to tranny adaptor then the 727... Might want to look into it.

I believe that the 727 and 518 are nearly the same with the exception of the overdrive unit replacing the tailshaft. I bought an after market convertor and even though they said it would fit, I had to buy the spacer. Figured it would be easier to sneak it up there instead of dropping the trans to turn down the convertor snout.

hmm i see. at the moment my torque converter has a warranty so i can get it turned down for free. im just not sure if that will solve the problem. my tranny is gunna send it out but it just doesnt make sence. i guess theres a possibility the adapter plates could be different. ill see what i can find i guess. i have my cab off so working on the tranny is pretty easy.

:scare2:I had to put a spacer in mine with a stock converter & a sfi flex plate used the same spacer when i bought a goerend converter make shur you get enough clearence or you will be eating front pumps. after bombming mine the stock flex plate flexed so much that it drove the converter into the front pump welding the seal to the conveter & jerking it out of the front pump The diesels dont have as much clr.as do the gas jobs hope this helps
