Ford powerstroke intercooler

Well this is my first post. I have been lurking around here and decided to join. I am doing a 1978 dodge crew cab conversion with a 1992 cummins, I have noticed that some of you guys are running the ford intercooler and have read other places how much of a great improvement they are. So I went out and bought one. It looked like it had been welded on the bottom so I asked the guy about it and said that it had been but it tested out to a 100 psi. Well being the non trusting person I am I took it to the local radiator shop that deals with this kind of stuff and had them test it and clean the inside out for me. So they call me back and say that it has a crack that runs 3/4 the length of the bottom of the intercooler , also it has alot of metal coming out of it when they cleaned it. So I call the guy and tell him and he wants to have his buddy cut the tanks off and clean the inside of it the best he can. Then reweld the tanks back on. Is there any way they can get the metal out of the inside or is he feading me a crock. I told him I can get another one for $100.00 from the junk yard here local but he insits that his friend can get it clean. What do you guys think.

I'd ask for my money back and return it.

I told him that he wants his friend to fix it. The guy is from a local 4x4 site and from what I have noticed from his past he is always hurting for money, do he usa probably spent the money.

?

I talked to him tonight and told him that I just want my money back and that I can not take the risk of having a problem with the intercooler.
