new truck leakin from injection pump

So I am back to first gens got a chevy 4 door intercooled conversion 5 speed 4x4 as soon as I got it started dripping fuel pretty bad from somewhere around the top of the injection pump. Is there any common leakage points been awhile since I touched a first gen. I am pretty mechanically inclined. can I reseal these if need be? been toying with vp44s and 6.7s lately.

Pull the top off and see if there's fuel in there. If so, you probably need a new o-ring on the guide pin.

Truck still runs great and has plenty of power still rolls the coal I am trying to figure out where it's coming from just weird that turned it on and started pouring out wasn't doing it the day before Looks like it's coming from multiple places one being that back big plug thing at the back with a rubber cab or something.

Ok found the major leak here are some pics what is this it is jb welded apparently all over the top of it not easy to get to and where do I get a new one plan on keeping this truck so JB Weld is not really on the top of my list. thanks It is the piece below diaphragm in front of the injection lines

I have been doing lots of research is it the shut off solenoid? Mine is manual shut off right now is this what I need to shut off the leak and then can I wire in an auto shut off?

That's a goober'd up shutdown solenoid. Easy fix if you can get it out - just put a new one in. You can get them for like $20. I saw one on ebag for $17 the other day.

But that one looks pooched. Probably JB'd because the hex is rounded and couldn't get it out. Mine is properly plugged, using JB Weld for thread sealant on a 1/2" NPT pipe plug:

I expect you wil have to pull the pump to deal with that. :td:

I guess I will be grabbing a 1/2" pipe plug on the way home probably got one on my truck since I'm a plumber. I'm gonna try without pulling but we will see. thanks

What I did was pull the soleniod, gut it, tap and reinstall like I said above. The big brass plug head is easier to get a wrench on. The hole that remains after you gut the solenoid is already about the correct size for a 1/2" NPT tap, IIR.

So I got tat piece sealed up but diesel is still coming from all over the pump. It doesn't do it with just the lift pump going but does it with truck running. I'm wondering if the lift pump having too much pressure would do this. I don't know what pump it is as I didn't put it in. Should I just buy a seal kit and give that a shot or ?

NadirPoint 10-13-2011 12:37 AM

That's what I would do. Make sure to lock the timing before pulling it, and be careful getting the woodruff key in re-installing. Those are the 2 gotchas I can think of right off the top.

thanks I'll order the kit tonight I read some of the posts about resealing and rebuilding so hopefully I can get it resealed I think it's the seal that houses the governor spring looks like that's where it's all coming from. While I'm there should I install some new parts like a governor spring and is my denny t stage II too aggressive for my setup I have it laying around barely used
