Which turbo will give me the best low rpm power?
Which turbocharger will give me the most power from say 1200-1800 rpm's and spool up very quickly? The Cummins is out of a 1991 Dodge and currently has an H1C turbo with a 21cm housing. This is backed by a NV4500 5 speed manual transmission. The engine is in a 1996 Chevy Tahoe and has a 3" exhaust and no muffler. The engine runs more like a gas engine than a diesel. It doesn't have much low rpm power and it's not until about 2000 rpm's that the engine starts to wake up. Also, it can smoke like crazy at low rpm's and especially when shifting gears. At low rpm's, 1/4 throttle and full throttle makes no difference, just more smoke.
I also happen to own a 1990 Suburban with an 89 Cummins with an HX35W 12 cm housing turbo. This engine is so much more responsive and hardly makes any smoke when shifting. You just move the throttle a little and the vehicle lurches forward. Is the dramatic difference due to turbo selection? |
i do believe the smallest housing made is the 9cm off the HX35 the only issue is that it will power hard off the line but get so hot on the top end
if you want a bad ass setup get a pro charger power now no questions asked |
I put a 12cm housing of a 2nd gen on my h1c, direct fit. Currently have a he351vgt on now, that has an even faster spool :tu:
