battery trouble?

ok i am having issues with my battery it dies really fast if the truck is not running. it charges up fine and runs right where it should/always has in my truck at about 15 volts, when the truck is running. everynow and then ill go to start it and it wont turn over just get click click click. the battery is about a year old and wasnt cheap at all!!!!:argh::argh:
and if i jump it it starts right up and charges enough that i can drive it and shut it off and come back an hour later and start it just fine but i let it sit over night last night and this morning wouldent start idk if its the battery? alternator? bad ground? and something keeps blowing the fuse in my dash lights i have blown two now in the last week. anyone have any ideas before i take it to a shop? thanks,
-Tanner

you definately have a wiring problem. something is draining your battery. the problem is finding it

t-bone117yamaha 09-20-2011 11:15 AM

ya well i have a cb,linear amp, sterio amp, and air compressor but when the truck isnt running i have the compressor and linear off and i dont leave the sterio on for more then about five minutes with the truck off and i hardly ever use my cb unlease on the highway/wheeling.

if you are blowing fuses and the battery goes dead overnight then to me that sounds like you have a short drawing power even when the key is off. our trucks a prone to wiring problems.

ya i am going to have the electricle system checked today and go from there ill let ya know what they say

NadirPoint 09-20-2011 02:16 PM

Could be the battery cables. Is he battery actually "dead?" Or just not starting....

t-bone117yamaha 09-20-2011 02:25 PM

its not dead just low enough that it turnes over about 4 times real slow then just clicks i will put a volt meter on it when i get home and see what the battery says i dont think its the cables i think its a fried battery or maybe bad alt. or something is like cumminskid92 says a short or something drawing power all the time.:argh::argh:

cumminskid92 09-20-2011 02:30 PM

what really makes me think it is a short is that you keep blowing fuses.

t-bone117yamaha 09-20-2011 02:43 PM

ya its just that one fuse but there is a wire going into the fuse with one of those crappy fuse conector so i think that may be the culprate :humm:

---AutoMerged DoublePost---

idk what the wire goes to but i will find out later if the battery and alt check out

NadirPoint 09-20-2011 03:55 PM

With the batt fully charged (or whatever it gets to at best) check the voltage, then disconnect the pos cable and let it sit overnight. Then check it again in the morning before reconnecting the cable. Then connect the cable and check it with the pos cable connected. You will see a drop somewhere that will be your clue as to if it's the battery or something else. If it is something other than the battery, leave it disonnected when not running before you ruin the battery or burn the truck down.

turnes out the voltage regulator is bad so it over charged the battery and fried it so now i need to find a volt regulator and its $180 for a new battery but thats a cat battery im sure it would be a little cheaper if i was just replacing it with the same battery

cumminskid92 09-22-2011 03:21 PM

I just bought an interstate for $65

t-bone117yamaha 09-22-2011 03:29 PM

ya using my work discount it came out to $115 for the biggest most bad a## battery they could put in there without harming/modefying anything and i found a voltage reg for $10 on ebay from an ebay store and napa wanted $75 dollars for the exact same part:moon: i love ebay
