Snug plus 1/4 turn, that's about every automotive filters "specs" unless you have a gorilla grip hand tight is sketchy at best... Mines hand tight and it has a tendency to have a weeee bit collect on the bottom of the filter. Waiting for the day it lets loose. Even after only tightening by hand the dang things always come off fighting.

Never had one come loose or leak on me n thy always come off easy for me when you oil the seal.

If it works for you all the better bud, I rarely use a filter wrench putting them on; always need one taking it off. Seen entirely too many filters loosen up from vibrations to leave them loose enough to remove by hand again. Just my personal preference :tu:
