racing manual trans

any opinions on which manual transmission holds up the best to drag racing with four wheel drive launches. we just finished some mods on my cousins 92, with a compressor upgrade, bigger injectors, and the pump turned up. the things goes like hell especially in four wheel drive but the trans is starting to worry us, the gates are starting to get pretty bad.

Brice does have a point. It doesn't matter how 'big' you build it or how much money you spend, you're still going to break stuff. BUT, if I were to go and buy an off-the-shelf tranny, (if that's possible) I'd be spending my money with either Suncoast or Goerend. I think Suncoast has fully built's, (not 100% sure) and really don't have a clue about Goerend. By no means are these two the only ones, I'm sure there are plenty of others out there that do a good, if not better, job. These two are the only ones I know of off the top of my head that I would spend money with.

Manual. NV4500 is a little better then the getrag. That being said they both have there issues. You could go crazy and get a later model 6 speed. Really, drag racing is faster with an auto.

Forged steel shift forks in either the Getrag, or the NV4500, would go miles towards making it more shift friendly, too.
Add in the normal drag race features like slick shifted synchro hubs and stop rings and it would drastically improve "speed shifting" on one.

It boils down to having to build the tranny for the purpose, not using stock junk and hoping against hope that it'll hold together.

It'll take thinking outside the box, like any other pioneering effort has. :humm:

Mark.
