Milling off intake

Soon I plan on having my head ported and possibly the intake milled off. At first i thought milling off the intake was for increased air flow but now i understand it only helps to port the head better. Question is, by milling it off how much better can it be ported? Enough that its worth my money or not?

I don't know what kind of HP it's worth, but it's going to depend alot on the design of the intake manifold you build. The stock one flows like a toilet. If you built a equal lenght runner design with common plenum, i'd put money on 50 + hp easy. I plan on building one like this for my 24v ppump jet boat.

If you do it, i would love to see the pictures.

Who cares what it adds for hp? The bad ass points go thru the roof!!! Lol. If it's ported make sure it's ported on a flow bench. Huckstorf diesel makes an even runner/common tube manifold. I think it's a 3" common tube 2" per runner. Theres another one out there made from aluminum. Kind of looks like a stocker but it has options for one or two tubes with jets that spray with the air stream directly into the intake channel. Let's you conveniently run nos/water meth propane and any combination of the three. The huckstorf diesel's has a port per intake tube.

With the intake milled off you can get anywhere you need to clear up to the valve I believe; where before you couldn't port squat

No power will be gained by simply milling off the stock/OEM intake log and replacing it with an aftermarket unit as it simply moves air.

The real benefit is as others have mentioned, better access for porting the intake side of the head.

Truthfully (IMO), in terms of "bang-for-the-buck", spend your money elsewhere if you're on a limited budget. ;)
