Power window issues
Power window on the pass side will not go up & down. The motor has power, makes noise, it seem like the window is on a bind or something. It's on the track, and its rotton of course. There's no parts hanging, or nothing in the bottom/inside door, wtheck is wrong:argh:!
|
Are you trying to operate it on the passenger side or from the drivers controls? Oh, wait... you said the motor works, so it doesn't matter. Getting ahead of myself. :argh: So, worm gear on the motor is worn? The threads are rusted on the spine? When did it last work? If it was yesterday then rust won't be the answer. Didn't Jim Lane over on DTR do a write up on this?

It worked yesterday, both switches work, it is crusty n rotty, but the motor is making noise, its not hot:humm:

If you can hear the motor spinning but the window isn't moving up or down, and there's no mechanical blockage holding the window in place, your problem is probably the safety clutches in the motor. It's been a while since I did it, but there are three Teflon-looking fat discs about the size of four or five dimes stuck together. They are what spline the window motor gear to the gear that moves the window; they a'splode after a while.
You gotta take the door panel off, drill holes to remove the motor, remove it, then take it apart and replace the clutches. You can sometimes find them on eBay or in the Help! section at the autoparts store, or you can make your own out of something suitable. I replaced mine years ago. Or you can replace the whole motor assembly. |
Thanks for the info, sounds like a good time:td: its a shame, but its time I get another truck. This crusty rotted shit is fer the birds:nope:

You could buy another 1st gen from a drier, less salty climate and still have some issues, but at least you won't be battling rust. Mark. |
