Low pressure piston pump
I was curious as to where i could buy a new 2nd gen low pressure piston lift pump and what parts are needed to swap from the stock lift pump.... which is leaking by the way. I have been told by many people that this is the way to go for first gens if you dont want to spend tons of money on an AD. Any info is greatly appreciated. Thanks :tu:

I did this swap a while back and I'm happy with the result. It was fairly easy to do. Spent around $200 for the whole thing. Now the pumps off the 2nd gen look the same on the outside but will make way too much pressure for the VE (blown out front seal will result etc.) You can use them but you will need a regulator. There is a lower pressure version around 12-16 psi I think. You can try cummins but I just ordered mine from a diesel parts place. Now stuff you need. These are the latest part numbers I could find they may have changed.
Spacer - 3914284 Spacer Gaskets - 3939258 Fuel Line - 3914753 (I just VERY carefully bent mine by hand a little at a time. Time consuming but saved me $40) Banjo Bolt Washers - 3963983 Piston LP - 4988751. (should have a purple dot on the housing I think) Hardest parts were getting the old gasket off and bending the line. Went together well though and I'm happy with the results and knowing my pump wont be starving for fuel. Also they should last a lot longer than the diaphragm lift pump. Oh it does make a little more noise. Sounds like I have a little tiny locomotive chugging along under the hood along side the Cummins. You get used to it though If you look around some of the other Cummins forums there are some step by step how to's with pics to help you along. Good luck. |

There is a company called Delphi who make the pump for a whole lot less than other folks. Around $80 IIRC. I'll try and find you the part# and supplier. Otherwise, your friendly local New Holland or CASE IH dealer should have the best price on the pump. Probably a different part number, (it keeps changing!! :argh:) I think you either put a 3 in front of the 4, or drop the 4 altogether, I can't remember which... sorry.

the part number you have given, measured flow: 32-43 gph at 30 PSI pump measured flow
(pump RPM): 1100 I have looked through all my books on 6b models (6b, 6bt, 6bta, 6btaa, 6bta(m)) they all use the same style lift pump, ecept for the VE style pump, CAVS DPA, STANADYNE DB4, AND VP14 pump It's flow rate is 50.59 gpm at 1800 rpm (this is for rotary) the only lift pump that I can think everyone is talking about is 3906795, this has a flow rate of 60.74 gpm @ 1250 rpm, this is for 6C motors does anyone have a part # for this high pressure lift pump for 6bt engines? |
Hey Brice can you get me the copper washers for the banjo bolt for the feed line from the lift pump? Oh and by the way my stock lift pump finally gave out on me today.
