Where to get Throttle Cable
My throttle cable snapped on me the other day:argh:. I can't seem to find a replacement for it:dang:. Napa can't get the right one and neither can Advance Auto Parts. Do i have to go through the Dodge Dealership for this or is there somewhere else i can get one? Thanks for any help.

um car quest carries a lot of crystler or dodge parts i would check there and if not there check on partstrain.com and then a last resort check a dodge dealership cause they are the most exspensive to buy parts hope this helps

What did you find that worked? I'm having a hell of a time locating a replacement and trying hard not to support my stealership.
TIA |
i ended up getting one from Advanced that was a close match. they have a bunch of universal ones in the their catalog and they just got me one to the specs i needed.

I have a few, some even still attached to the high idle assembly found on the 5 speed trucks. :D
The cable fits '89-'91. Mark. |

The cable fits '89-'91. Mark. Got one for the 92-ish one that I got from you? And, it would be good to get the 5-speed style, since it's got the 4500 behind it, now. |
The cable depends on which body you use.
1992-'93 (R/Cs, too!) has a square hole in the firewall, '89-'91 is round. The '91-'93 trucks did NOT get the high idle lock with the 5 speeds. Basically it boils down to what year you actually have, but I have both cables. Mark. |
Truck is a 90. Don't remember what year engine I got from you. VE pump, intercooled. Does this cable go all the way to the ball/socket joint on the triangular piece on the IP?
Right now, we're using a screw-clamp on the cable itself. Eventually that will fray and break. |
I believe the engine you got was a '92.
The cable runs from the fuel pedal all the way to the triangle bracket and does utilize the snap-on ball end. As I said, it's '89-'91 with the round firewall hole, and I have several. $30, shipped Priority Mail. Mark. |

Dodge History, Chapterrrrrrr....71! When Dodge first offered the Cummins, in model year '89, it was with the 21cm exhaust housing, and no intercooler. Simplicity!!! Those early trucks were dead slow, and when the upgrade happened a couple of years later, the inter cooled trucks were all supposed to have 18cm exhausts. The first 70,000 inter cooled trucks went out the door with 21's. My son's RamCharger received the engine from one of those 70,000 "wrong" trucks. It now sports a set of Black Dragon injectors, rebuilt injection pump, timing bumped to optimize the injection, and a 14cm housing. Both the 21 and the 18 were needlessly large housings, so spool up took forever. Good thing the best competitors from that era were the N/A 6.9 IDI and the big-block gas Fords. Had the 7.3 'Stroke been available during that time, the whole Cummins idea might have been a very short era. |
I disagree :td: my 92 pulls better then most powerjokes and gets better mpg.THE ONLY THING THAT RUNS GOOD ON A POWERJOKE IS THE OWNERS MOUTH!Besides that alot of people are wanting to get the older first gens so that must mean something.

Had the non-intercooled, big-housing, slow '89's had to compete with the 7.3 'Stroke, rather than the N/A 6.9 IDI.... Face it. In 1989, a slow-assed Cummins-powered Dodge still had bragging rights of "best", compared to an even-more-slow International-powered Ford, and a stationary, broken 6.2 or 6.5 liter Detroit-labelled Chevy/GMC. In all honesty, have you noticed anybody bragging about his awesome, bone-stock non-I/C '89? |

Actually in 1989 the ford had the IDI 7.3 diesel but its pretty much the same motor.

It was non turbo until like 1993 I think then u could order it with a turbo from the dealer.
|
Oh, okay, cool, thanks for the info, my 89 was okay stock, no complaints for lack of power, or economy, and i absolutely love it now that I've tweaked the pump, I also have a 7.3 stroker, love that too, eventually I want to put a 24 valve in that so ill have the reliablity, the power and the economy :) oh and the 7.3 idi turbo blew as many head gaskets as the 6.0 powerstroke

I have a 1990 Dodge Cummings diesel throttle cable.
