P pump swap question
Hey there. I'm planning a P pump swap on my 91.5 i/c motor. I know I need the inner and outer gear covers, the p pump, and the fuel lines. (also wiring, fuel in and return and that little stuff too) Do I need to use the cam and/or cam gear from the p pump motor or will my cam and gear work?? Is there anything else I need?? I want to have everything ready before I tear down. any help would be great. Thanks!

Hey thanks for the overview!! Very detailed pics. you mentioned you broke 2 lift pumps, you think this was from using the 1st gen cam or just got unlucky with the parts??? I don't mind spending the extra cash on an airdog, i'm just curious. thanks again

I cant say for sure it was bad pumps. I dont know how i could have broken 2 of them though. The airdog is nice, especially when it come to priming, but whats more reliable? The airdog or a mechanical pump? Id stick with a mechanical one if you can. Maybe there is a difference in the cams? im not sure.

Yea it would be odd to have 2 bad pumps, but i've seen stuff like that happen before. I'd prefer to keep the pump mechanical, but I guess i'll do what I have to!!! thanks for your help and the quick replies. the sooner I figure all this out the sooner I can do my swap!!
Does anyone know if the 2nd gen cams will fit in the 1st gen blocks?? I looked at some aftermarkets and re-grids to see if they were different and they are listed as different part numbers. I'm wondering if the only difference is the drive for the lift pump?? |
12 valve cams are used in all 12 valve 5.9l Cummins engines, you can even use the 12 valve camshaft in a 24 valve 5.9l Cummins engine.
