TURBO QUESTION

Have any of you bought one of the turbos on ebay? they are brands I have not heard of, like jiamu and some other brand they are a hx35 rip-off. they sell anywhere from $350.00 to $500.00. Are they worth trying. I know it's not holset or industrial injection. Is it worth trying one for the goof to see how long it last's they all come with a warranty. This would be on a 91.5 d250 intercooled. any info would be great.

NOOOO do not bother with those turbos. they are just cheap nock offs that are poorly designed. ive watched videos on them and they cant handle loads as well and when they blow they dont break down internally and shoot the parts out through the exhaust. they blow up like a bomb which can be very dangerous and could hurt someone.

Hear say is cheap. Has anyone actually owned and used one?

never used one more or less I was scared to put it on my truck after I handled it personally it had a much play new as a holest dose when they need to be rebuilt!

I put one on a friends truck and it was junk. The shaft wasn't machined right and it spit what I believe was the oil seal though the oil return. It also looks to be made of very low grade material. Not worth the money at all.:td:

A friend of mine had one of the generic HX40s on his 97 five speed and it grenaded his engine bay... I was riding in the truck when it happend, it was pretty exciting :tu:

when buying those turbos online, you need to have them rebalanced and have new seals and bearings replaced, I bought one about 3 years ago (why) it was 200.00, but I did spend 350.00 putting in new bearings and having to get it rebalanced properly, so with that said, if you buy something cheap, one way or the other you will end up spending the same amount as if you bought a good turbo, or worse.

the only reason why I did buy, I was thinking about selling some of the turbo's myself, but before I would ever sell anything to a customer of mine, I get it checked out and use it on my own stuff, I have never bought another one from ebay or online since.

Im not saying that there isnt good deals out there or good turbo's from aftermarket suppliers, I dont want to talk bad about any one company selling any kind of aftermarket product.

I do know that Brice @ bbd has a very good hybrid turbo and is fairly priced, there are others who sell turbo's on this site as well, I just have not had the privilege of purchasing from the fine sponsors on this site.

sorry for the long post and happy hunting for a turbo.

Thank you to all. I'll check out BBD site and look and the hybrid and go from there. Thanks again.
