EGT & BOOST ?

I was just wondering what is the max EGT & BOOST is before it damages things?:hellox:

they say aluminum starts to melt at like 1350 but i have heard guys say when they punch it they are running about 1600 but they don't keep it there long. so i would say don't go over 1350 in less you aren't going to keep it there long. and boost i think it is 42 psi before your head-bolts won't hold anymore. somebody correct me if i am wrong. hope this helps you:tu:

Cummins gives an EGT limit of 1250 max continuous. Boost has been somewhat undefined. Different posters range it 35 to 50.

i run my 1st gen at about 1100-1250 down the road witha trailer and have not hurt any thing and on a 89-98 6bt cummins dont go over 55psi or head bolts will stretch ans blow head gasket i have seen this a few times

Re: EGT & BOOST ?

Thing about egts is that most of the heat is held in the exhaust manifold. The cooler air charge and fuel in the cylinder will keep the cylinder cooler... Til combustion occurs of course.

yeah but if your egts are high in the cylinders you will melt your injector tips i just did it on my 96 and get to hot you will melt a piston but yourr normal street truck dont get that hot

Exactly, my point being; while your EGT's may be 1600* for a stint (say 1/4 run), the cylinder temps are still cooler, and should be fine for a short run. Of course pulling a long haul at a high temp would be bad.

every gasket is different I have seen 20 year old stock head gaskets blow at 30 PSI some at 90PSI so be sure you know what your getting into before cranking up that PSI

also the more you advance your timing the HOTTER your cylinder temps get and the cooler the EGT's get

I have ran many configurations have seen as hot as 2000* in the 1/4 mile
as said above cummins says 1250 all day is ok

if you watch that pyro you wont have an issue if you dont have a pyro leave it stock lol

These pyro temps being thrown about here are PRE-turbo, not POST. Just something to keep in mind... :humm:
