what gauges do i use??

im planning on getting a stage 2 fuel pin and turning my full power screw in 2 times for my 91 should i get any gauges? or just go with it?

Pyro and boost and if you have a auto tranny maybe a tranny temp but not necessary.

cummin91 01-09-2011 07:10 PM

ok what brand and yes i do have an auto tranny.. what exactly does a pyro gauge do?

90cummins 01-09-2011 07:25 PM

pyro is the egt, exhaust gas temp.

cummin91 01-09-2011 07:38 PM

And in a 1st gen what is the level the egt should be?

90cummins 01-09-2011 08:21 PM

mines turned up a little and running about 60 it is around 650-700. when i pull things or really get on it they go up to about 900. you just don't want them to get above 1300 for very long or you will start melting things.:tu: and for the brand i have an isopro tach and bw for my boost and pyro.

Ok good deal thank you buddy, also the starwheel, how many rotations should that be from the top to get the most power? Because the guy I got the truck from had already messed with the star wheel and I didn't no so I turned it 2 full rotations so see if it would run better now I can't find the g spot for it

RSWORDS 01-09-2011 09:06 PM

Yuo wont see any real power gain from the smoke screw or the star wheel. Play with them to get the best drivability.

cummin91 01-09-2011 09:11 PM

Ok so it doesn't matter if the starwheel is turned all the way down?

90cummins 01-10-2011 02:54 PM

the best cheap thing for power is to rotate the fuel pin or get a new one. :tu:

cummin91 01-10-2011 03:00 PM

Yeah I don't no which way to rotate it now

90cummins 01-10-2011 04:12 PM

here is a very educating video. this is how i learned how to turn mine.:tu:
good luck

Autometer Are good gauges.
IMO a fuel pressure gauge is cheap insurance. If the lift pump starts to fail it will stress your Injection pump. I'm not touching my IP till I have EGT, Boost, trans temp, fuel pressure and a rebuilt transmission.

Ok thanks guys for all the help! If I turn up the fuel screw will that also produce more boost? Also how do I get to the full fuel screw its in the back and there is no way to get a wrench down there! Any tips?:argh:

IrishChamp 01-23-2011 10:08 PM

Yes more fuel = more boost and higher EGT's.
Sorry no tips on getting to the fuel screw.

EGT is just the temperature correct?

IrishChamp 01-24-2011 12:01 PM

Yes, Exhaust Gas Temperature.
