Im looking at getting a daily driver. I want a 1st gen. Whats some of the common problems with them and what are some key things i need to look for? Im looking for a 2wd with around 100,000 miles or less. Seems like the best i can do is about 65,000. Any tips would be alot of help guys! Hope to get one soon

Im not sure about common problems, but on mine the front mounting brackets for the leaf springs are breaking. But mine has 207000 miles on it, so i would check to see if the brackets have been welded. I believe that my lift pump is goin out, so get a fuel pressure test on that. My rear diff blew up, so make sure you dont have any awful griding noises when you drive it. Other than that I would say just check for whatever you would look for when you buy any other car. Run good, drive good, history or regular fluid changes etc... Regular use of additives would be a plus in my opinion. But I would personally focus on the condition of the drivetrain seeing as everything on mine seems to need rebuilt sooner or later. But if you get one you wont regret it

First, foremost and above all else THE TRANSMISSION CONDITION is the big killer of dealing on these trucks.
Most of the really cheap ones have tranny issues, mainly that the trannies come installed loosely in the BED of the truck.
They are also very big on wiring issues.
Cab rot above the windshield is another big crutch on them, as is MAJOR rocker issues on the Club Cabs.

The newest of these trucks is already 17+ years old and, in all reality, they were built CHEAP and weren't really meant to last 15+ years.

Mark.
