fuel pressure drop

after I turned up my pump ( ve )I noticed the truck would fall flat on upper end during wot. so I put in a fuel pressure gauge and found that it dropped to ( 0 ) psi so I put in a low pressure piston pump and I replaced the fuel line with a 1/2 inch pickup tube and 1/2 inch line all the way to the l/p ( I was there may as well do it right). I was expecting good things. come to find out it still dropped to ( 3 ) psi, better, but not good.
My question is, should this l/p be doing a better job than that, or is there something else wrong.
thanks for any input shane

OK...... does anybody else run the low pressure piston pump and have had this problem with these mods. am I expecting too much from this pump???
thanks shane :humm:

I can pull mine down to 3 as well. 6x16's tuned to 300 horses. I have all stock fuel lines.

doesn't that mess with your timing? I thought any thing under 8 psi was hard on things.

A stock diaphram style is lucky to have 5 psi max. My stock one had 3 to 4 psi tops after the filter.

Yep, your pressures are ok, not ideal but about all you can ask for. Try a little timing bump to get some top end back. 1/8" should do it.

I did bump it up abought an 1/8. I have been reading some old threads on the dynamic timing spacer, although i havent decided what to do yet. thanks for the info.I guess I wont expect much more from my l/p.:argh:

in my opinion the only way to go is a proper electric fuel pump thats designed for 1/2" + fuel lines!!
my pumps is a carter performance series it puts out 18psi at the pump and i can pull it down to about 15psi at full throttle!!
i noticed a big gain in the top end!!

do you have some numbers off of the pump by chance?? I am considering this route. thanks :humm:
