Think I Killed My IP Pump

So About a year ago I had the factory lift pump fail... replaced from one from autozone. Well yesterday i noticed loss of power and white smoke ( got 250 ticket for excessive smoke from az police) anyways my fuel pressure guauge failed last week... got home put my test guage on and no psi....pulled lift pump and arm was mia....fell in pan..... put new pump on and have 6psi...now truck sputters egt are high and smokes like a banshee....tried to turn pump down and full power screw is seized..... anyways i think it fried the rotor..

ive rebuilt vw ip pumps but its been 10 years... where do i get rotors, delivery valves ect for these units? 750.00 is way out of my budget for a reman.

What else may have failed? what are commonly replaced parts during rebuild?

anyone have any ideas where to get parts?

Saw one guy selling reseal kit and rotor for 105.00

any help is appreciated... im a mobile mechanic and my trucks down now ... 400k on original ip pump:argh::argh::argh::argh::argh::argh:

You have the same symptoms mine had. I hate to be a party pooper but I had to buy a reman ip and I went ahead and got a piston pump to avoid fuel pressure problems down the road.

yup low pressure pump and good guage will be installed for sure.....pissin me off though...cant find parts other than reseal kit....

Try midwest fuel injection. My friend got a couple small parts from them when he lost pieces doing the 366 spring.

Thanks white 93 ill give them a shout....its crazy though. I've called multibe local rebuilders and they won't sell parts. Only seal kits.... they make it sound like its some strange voodoo involved. I have all the specs and tollerances needed for a rebuild and I've done a ton of vw pumps which are almost identical. I would rather do an ip pump than a valve body on a trans anyday of the week and I do multiple vb every day lol...I think it has more to do with they don't want people to know how easy and cheap an ip pump is..soon as I get 4k I'm buying a friend of a friends pump test stand and nozzle raters plus equiptment to redo injectors...think I'm gonna build pumps affordable. No reason at all to charge 700 to 1100 to do a rotary pump.... so far I be in it for 200 but still have way more vendor lookups and calls to make....this ip pump failure may be a blessing in disguise yet....:rocking:

400k is a very good run for a VE!

I have a spare intercooled head and rotor that are in nice condition.
PM me, if you're interested.

Mark.

so shes back to 100%.....i rebuilt ip pump with new fuel supply pump and rebuilt my injectors. wound up buying a jewelry ultrasonic cleaner for nozzles...set pressure to 3500 psi...did a leak down test and adjusted the valves. the truck has never ran so good. max egt is 950 so i have a little tweaking to do yet but am very happy. no smoke and runs super smooth. also did 366 spring, very nice....all in all its the best 200 dollars i ever spent on truck.:jump:

guys maybe you can guide me right here I thouhgt the ve would live with a bad lift pump? I know it's not great but I thought it would. I know a vp44 won't. Am I wrong?

JBradley500 09-14-2010 08:56 PM

the ve pump will run with a bad lift pump but its not good for the ve pump.
