Getrag Breaking Point?

What is the round-a-bout "breaking point" of a Getrag tranny?

I have a fairly hopped up P-pump 12 valve in front of my Getrag, and I'm concerned I might be in for trouble... On top of the high horsepower and torque I'm putting through the South Bend single disc 500hp clutch, I'm trying to turn 38" rubber with 4.10 gears under a 9000lb truck...

Does anyone have a hint as to what the Getrag can handle? Or should I face the facts and start looking for something beefier?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

9,000lb? where'd ya get the extra few thousand from? yikes!

either way.. you should be ok.. it's a hard one to find specs for, but I believe its rated for a GVCWr of 28k

A bit over 500hp, Getrag is still going, can't say the same for the lock outs.

The extra weight comes from homemade 3/8" sheet metal bumpers, beefy traction bars, extra capacity fuel tanks, and a toobox with more goodies in it than most semi-pro garages...

Getrag will take all the 4500 will. Dont forget to overfill it one quart.

I don't think I would go as far as to say that.

Doesn't pull as good in 2wd.

9000 pounds and you are worried about the trans??

I would worry about the brakes!!

I think your weight estimate is high... My truck is a 85 CREW CAB with a CTD, 6" lift, 35s, fabricated bumpers, and 12,000 pound winch. With me (200 pounds), full tank of fuel, several hundered pounds of tools and spare parts I am just a tick over 7000 pounds.

I know for a FACT the G360 WON'T take a GCVW of 27,500 for very long.
I split one case pulling the Rockies with that much. It wasn't a good thing.
I recall seeing the TRUCKS as being rated for up to 18,000 pounds somewhere, I believe in the owner's manual, and somewhere on the 'Net.

The NV4500 is rated for only slightly more.

Mark.

From the Quad 4x4 site, in reference to the NV4500's capacity:

"The NV4500 is a 195 pound transmission designed for stock vehicles up to 1 ton and 19,000 lbs Gross Combined Vehicle Weight."
