91 dodge auto

how stout are these automatics. also what transmission mods would be good for using this pickup to pull heavy loads. i will be putting a 4.56 gear rearend in it

torque converters are a known weak link in these transmissions a good aftermarket tc is a must. the 518 doesnt tend to like holding up too much IMO, ESPECIALLY the overdrive units

yep and a valve body or shift kit

anybody now what it would take to put a chevy nv4500 in this dodge. i have a dodge flywheel, clutch and all hydraulics. can i just switch the input shaft to dodge

RSWORDS 05-02-2010 09:56 AM

The 4500 in the diesels is different from the 4500 from the chevys. Its alot more HD.

tltruckparts 05-02-2010 11:11 AM

well if the nv4500 is from a chevy diesel all you really need is the different bellhousing i believe and possibly the rear engine adapter

RSWORDS 05-02-2010 11:49 AM

I've been told the chavy 4500's were weaker.

tltruckparts 05-02-2010 12:12 PM

they are up until like 96 or 97 i believe. after that there a very good trans and IIRC they dont have the 5th gear problem

HAYMAFIA 05-02-2010 08:24 PM

my 4500 is a 94 model. the input shafts are different. but i didnt know if they have the same size input shaft gear as the dodge tranny
