Now your gonna get people confused here buddy (glfredrick). Your truck has an adjustable timing gear, ours are keyed. They are different pumps different gears and have to be done differently. We have to bump the pump and go off of our timing marks that are on the pump and the gear housing.

Just in case someone is reading this and thinking "What the hell is this guy talkin bout!"

so i then make a mark on my ip and above that mark i make another, then i measure 1/8 and make the mark on the ip line up with it and its good?:humm:

Yes, us guys with first gens will do it by the marks on the injection pump and gear housing.
Just go ahead and watch this vid. it's a lot better than me trying to explain it.:tu:

Bigredgoat, there are 4 bolts that hold our pumps on, not 3. I struggled and sweated and cursed the first time I tried doing my timing:argh:. Got it in the end though. :jump: The 4th is at the opposite end of the pump from the other 3 bolts. And much easier to get to than that one under the pump!! :madd:

The guy goes kinda slow in the video but he shows and tells ya what all to do. Now you don't have to use a strap but you can if ya need. And yes, there are three nuts that need to be loosened at the front flange part of the pump and one 10mm one that is on the bracket at the back of the pump. Lucky me, I have to whole motor out so i just took the vac. pump off so I could get to the bottom bolt easily.

that video is awsome. im gonna do that 2morrow after i put in my POD injectors. i have another question? i tried to put in a 3200 rpm spring but i couldnt get the nut off the throttle linkage, is there a trick?

FRadisi 04-28-2010 10:30 PM

I've been told advancing the timing 1/8" is good for another 1-2mpg, correct or incorrect?

pewder 04-28-2010 11:12 PM

Nut on the throttle linkage? The one that holds the ball or the one on the rod?

BIGREDGOAT 04-28-2010 11:22 PM

the one that hold the linkage down. i think it is a 8mm allen

pewder 04-28-2010 11:33 PM

hmmm.... Mine didn't have that much of a problem coming loose, but then again I had mine sitting on the table in front of me and not actually in the truck. Must be time to get a lil mean and break out the big tools! :bomb21:ha ha
