Low pressure hose on power steering pump

My LOW pressure hose on my power steering pump is rotted. Can I just unscrew the fitting from the steering box, and hack off the rotted section, and run rubber hose to the pump?? It's LOW pressure, so it should be ok right? Is there any springs in the power steering box that I need to worry about flying out, and lossing something?

I don't know about the fitting, but yeah you can use regular hose. thats what I used on mine.

When I unbolt the fitting from the steering box, WILL anything pop out at me?? Say like a spring or anything, or is it safe to just unscrew?

Don't use any old rubber hose... Heater hose and hydraulic fluid don't mix.
