05 wheels on a 1st gen
I got a set of aluminum wheels off an 05 CTD 4x4 :tu:and the dude told me they were 16's. Uh yeah, there 17's:dang:. I didn't know, he's a dork. Should I run these on my Goldie? What size 17 should I run? Anyone wana trade for 16's? Hmmmmmm.:humm:

you will prolly need a spacer so the wheels will clear the tie rods if its a 4x4. dunno about 2wheel drive.

So all I need is the wheel spacers and I can run them:humm:? I wanted to run 245/75/16's, can I still run the same with the 17's:humm:? If so, will it throw off my speedo?:humm:

different soze tires will throw it off a little. the problem with the newer wheels are the offset of the wheels. I had a set of wheels and tires for $300 but they didnt fit. they ever so slightly tough the tie rod ends. Dont know exactly what the deal is but i do know you will need like 1/8 inch to clear them, might need longer lugs too. someone else will chim in.

I don't think they will work as the stud size on the newer trucks is also larger!

You will need something like this, only about 2" thick:

Although it can be done and people have done it, I don't recommend running 3rd Gen wheels on the 1st Gen. It increases stress on the kingpins and wheel bearings due to the wider tire scrub path, throwing off the D60 steering geometry, as designed. I don't have any actual data to back this up, but I wouldn't go much more than around an inch wide with an adapter like that. Those are 1.25". |

I got those crapy steel ones off a 07 they were free so I cant complain:tu: and I ordered 1/8'' spacers from JCwhittny for like 10bucks a piece and I have no problems with them:jump: but since your is two wheel drive dont know but yes the2nd gens will fit and you sould have no rubbing problems

You'd need spacers with 2nd gen wheels too. I bought a set for my truck and the inside of the wheel hits the upper control arm

The stock 1st Gen wheels are 6" wide with zero offset. |

I have 3rd gen wheels on my 91.5 -
Attachment 47941 What I learned doing it :argh: Basically, the rear end is easy. You can swap out the 1/2" studs for 9/16" studs. They are a standard D60 style stud with a .625" knurl. The front is where you get screwed. Its an odd ball .723" knurl. And you can't get a 9/16" stud with that knurl. So, you have to either buy a set of adapters that will bolt to the stock 1/2" studs and convert over to 9/16", or you have to redrill the hub and rotor for new studs. We were in a bind so we had them drilled out and put 1/2" spacers between the wheel and rotor. 3/4" would be ideal, but I think the smallest adapter you will find is like 1" or 1 1/4". |

1stGen 1-ton = 9/16, 3/4-ton = 1/2
All 2nd Gen and later are 9/16 stud. |
My 1st gen W350 dually has 5/8 studs.

Hey buddy, been looking for some good info on a 2wd with 3rd gen, you can find a bunch of 4wd! SO, i see you added 1/2"spacers on the front. What about the rear? I heard that they fit no problem but they need spacers/adaptors for them to look right. they look tightly tucked with out them?? Knowing what you know now, what would you suggest for the best method of getting those wheels on a 2wd D250? I am at that cross and would APPRECIATE your info. Great looking truck! THANKS!!
