5.9 Bastard child HELP!
 
I just picked up a 97 Dodge 3500 4X4. NV 4500 and i believe the 215 h.p. P-Pump motor. The tranny is going into my Dads 92' to replace the smoked auto. The motor has a pretty hellacious rod knock, but comes with a 1st gen long block that has been disasembled for inspection. Just wanted some opinions on what to do. I was thinking of installing the 97' head on the 1st gen block along with the P-pump, cam, turbo ect ect. Is there any problems i am going to run into? Are the cams the same? Heads the same? I've tried researching the difference between the 1st gen and the P-pump and haven't found much. Basically I just want to use the 1st gen short block... Any help/guidence would be appreciated. Its going into my 93 Ext. cab Dually.

Edit- Wasn't sure if i should post this in the 1st or 2nd gen section.

I believe that that stuff will all bolt up just fine the way you plan. I doubt the cams are any different, but don't really know for sure. Maybe slihgtly different grind. As long as it's a 12v-to-12v swap enerything go right togther as if it came like that from the factory.

Thank you for the reply. I thought the same but wanted to double check. Anybody else?

The only difference between the 1st and 2nd Gen 12v is the injection pump, so since you already have all the parts, timing case, etc, should be an easy swap. Make sure to use the 2nd Gen lift pump as well - they run higher pressure to the inline injection pump.

Thanks again man. I was planning on running an external lift pump anyway with 1/2" line or so. :tu:
